University Students for Egyptological Research
Welcome new and returning members!
Unviersity Students for Egyptological Research is a group for students studying, researching and practicing Egyptology at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.
USER (pronounced wsr,the Ancient Egyptian word for ‘strength’) was founded by undergraduate Egyptology students in 1992. The group disbanded in 1996 leaving behind a great need for community connection and a few newsletters known as The Papyrus.
Postgraduate students then took up the torch in 1997. These students aimed to bring the group of ‘lonely minds’ together to ignite active community discussions, seminars and conferences, bringing Egyptology students out of their isolation.
After a brief hiatus, the the group was reunited under the management of Todd Gillen and Ezzat Refaei, who turned the group’s composition and focus to research over the past three years.
In 2009, under the coordination of Beverley Miles and Amber Hood, the group will again be open to undergraduate and Honours students majoring in Egyptology, joining the MA students, PhD candidates, Post-Docs and Staff members at regular monthly meetings.
U.S.E.R. will continue to facilitate networking, socialising, and dialogue amongst students to encourage and perpetuate a sense of community amongst Egyptology students at Macquarie University.
Do not be proud of your knowledge,
Consult the ignorant and the wise.
